More about Ann G:"I love Family History and teaching math. I always wanted to be a teacher from elementary school on. In the 7th Grade, I decided that I wanted to be a math teacher. In 1965 I graduated from East Central University in Ada Okalahoma with a Bacholar's Degree in Math Education with a minor in physics. I started my teaching career at Ringgold High School (my alma mater, 1961). In 1981, I graduated from West Georgia University with a Master's Degree in Math Ed. and with a certification not only in Secondary education but also in Middle Grades. Later I added Gifted Status to my certification. I taught a toltal of 35 years with experience mostly at the High School Level, but several years in middle grades, and two years at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I retired in 2002 from Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. I was not really ready to retire but had health issues that made it necessary. I then taught GED classes, part-time, at the Catoosa Learning Center for four years and then at the Lafayette Library for 1 year. During that last year in GED, I also started teaching at...Expand for more
Dalton State College as a part-time instructor. and have been there seven years. I really enjoy teaching. I feel it is my calling to help students to learn math and I don't feel my calling is over yet. I have had osteo-arthtitis since I was 28 years old. Since 1985, I have suffered with back problems. I had my 1st lumbar surgery in 1986. Then I was doing great for about 3 years. I spent from 1990-2002 in pain management with epidurals about every 6 months so that I could function in my job. In 2004, thanks to a friends suggestion, I started seeing the doctors at Spine Surgery Associates and in 2005 had lumbar fusion by the best doctor ever, Dr. Richard G. Pearce. After about a year, I could go back into the classroom part-time. This was such a happy time for me. It had been years since I could stand and teach a class without any pain. This was truly a great blessing in my life. Since my problem is degenerative disk disease, my whole back has the same problem as then. So wouldn't you know that i started having serious cervical problems this past January. I had cervical fusion in June and am still recovering. The surgery went well. It is taking me a little longer to gain my strength back. I guess that is due to my age. LOL But, Dr Pearce says I can go back to work in August. So if you are ever at Dalton State College, just look me up. I will be teaching on Mondays and Wednesdays. My office is in the Sequoya Building Room 237. I consider my self very blessed in so many ways. I thank my Heavenly Father each day for all my blessings and for making it possible to do the things I do and for a husband that helps me be able to concentrate on other things by helping with the house work and cooking our meals. Even though surgeries have helped me to be more active, I have to watch how much I do. As Dr. Pearce has told me many times, "When you over do, you will pay for it."".
